In this competitive economic environment, you need
every advantage you can get. One way that you can easily increase your
visibility is by participating in the MasterMine VAR Program. MasterMine
identifies VARs according to their participation level – Platinum, Gold and
Authorized – on the convenient VAR Locator on the
MasterMine website.
MasterMine prospects who come to MasterMine’s
website without a VAR are encouraged to visit the VAR Locator to find local
GoldMine Solutions Partners who can help them create an effective and
manageable GoldMine environment that truly meets their specific needs.
Please be sure you are listed appropriately on our
VAR Locator. In December, each VAR will
receive a reminder e-mail showing which VAR level their quarterly sales so far will
qualify them for. We’ll help you any way we can to achieve the necessary level
of sales this quarter to maintain your chosen VAR level status. You may want to review the benefits of higher

Record-setting Sales for October
Something good is going
on at MasterMine that you will want to be a part of! Two FrontRange awards in
two years and record sales in October point to increased recognition of the
ease and power of MasterMine as THE analysis and reporting tool of choice in
the GoldMine community. If there’s something holding you back from taking

October 2001 sales
versus October 2000 were up 200 percent. And that’s just part of the larger trend:
Year-to-date revenue, January through October, 2001 is up 214 percent over the
same period in 2000. We see a long-term trend here that can be beneficial to
all. Use our success as a springboard for your own! With every new client we’re accumulating success stories (see #4 below)
and testimonials. Check these out and
use them to bolster your sales story, and send in your own!

Site Licensing – Profitable for Small and Large Installations
With the release of
Version 3.0 in September, site licensing has become a popular and profitable
option. One reseller, whom we hope to feature in a future issue, recently
purchased a 40-seat site license of MasterMine. Many others are including
MasterMine to dramatically enhance the value and profitability of their
larger-seat proposals – and to differentiate them from their CRM competitors.
Site licensing requires that you purchase the same number of
MasterMine seats as GoldMine seats, but at a much lower per-seat price. You
can now equip a smaller installation of 1-5 GoldMine seats for less than the
cost of MasterMine’s former 1-user license: your cost is as little as $295
wholesale! The suggested retail price for those licenses is up to $600,
creating an opportunity to double your profit on the software alone. Again, purchasing
the right to up-to-5 seats does not mean applying this license to a
1-seat GoldMine is wasteful – in fact, it’s cheaper than ever and it allows for
the client’s future growth!
Small is good; large is better. Your profit depends on your status in the VAR program. Platinum-level
VARs purchase MasterMine site licenses for only $59/seat; Gold-level VARs pay
$69/seat; and Authorized VARs pay $79/seat (minimum 5 seats). With an SRP of $120/seat, your opportunity
for profit is assured.
Named-user licensing is still available, and is still appropriate
in some cases. Keep in mind that a named-user license for 5 users ($1495) retails
for roughly the same as a 12-user site license. Your client’s long-term needs should determine which route they take.
Site licensing is more profitable for you through software sales,
as well as the additional training and support opportunities it generates due
to the wider user base. Site licensing
also provides your clients with the ability to leverage the information in
their GoldMine databases across a wider spectrum of GoldMine users for maximum
productivity and customer satisfaction.

Featured Case Study – Relevant Automation and Client, Work Central
Work Central is a Rocky Mountain, North Carolina, call center providing
support services to low-income, working families that assist them with
re-employment, career advancement through training and job search
support, job retention help through obtaining needed support services such as
daycare and transportation, and financial asset guidance such as opening bank
accounts, purchasing a car or house.
Reliant on federal funds doled out by both the state and the
counties they serve, Work Central had to find a way to report on 91 different
criteria – monthly, quarterly and annually, in order to continue to remain in
the budget and serve their targeted population. Prior to using MasterMine,
reports Work Central’s Executive Director, Mary Mallory, compiling such reports
involved extensive manual calculation and took days.
Today, using MasterMine, Mary prepares her quarterly report in
several hours. The information was so good, she said, that the Legislature
questioned the validity of her data . . . they couldn’t believe anyone could
analyze the data for nearly 10,000 families so thoroughly and accurately! In a
time when many budgets were cut, the Work Central budget remained intact.
Mary also raves about the flexibility of the software. Not only
can she report results county by county, but when directors of counties call
and ask for specific information, for example, data on housing, how many
constituents own, rent, live in public housing, etc., she can create a new
report in 30 minutes to deal with that request, and include it in all future
reports for that specific director.
With MasterMine, Mary has been able to help her social workers be
more productive. When they need to target a specific population for a specific
service, Mary runs a report that pulls out all the appropriate names for that
group. The worker then focuses on the social work they were trained to do
rather than spending time searching for the right people to serve.

helping clients help themselves. He adds that even though Mary can now create
the reports she needs, she still turns to Relevant Automation for additional
consulting needs and major adjustments. It’s a win-win partnership.

Raleigh, North Carolina. In business since 1993, they became strictly GoldMine
resellers in 1997. A firm of five, they focus on the central North Carolina
region, but have clients as far away as Dallas and Switzerland.

New Training Manual Being Developed
A new training manual is in the works, and is expected to be
complete by the first of the year. This manual will emphasize problem-solving
and will help you to explain the use of MasterMine in smaller bite-size steps. You can use it as a handout in your own
training classes or as a reference for your own users. After it comes out, the
manual will be available for all participants of Face-to-Face training, and may
be downloaded from our website at your convenience.

Marketing Hint – Share Success Stories
We all know that one of the best ways to impart powerful,
persuasive information is through stories. Beginning in early December you will
be able to download MasterMine Success Stories from the “Testimonials &
Stories” section to share with your clients. Whether they prefer e-mail, fax or
hard copy, it’s not only another way to introduce them to a full
GoldMine/MasterMine solution, it’s also a handy way to keep in touch. The first
of many success stories appeared in this newsletter.
Also starting in December, you will be invited to participate in regular
online conferences with your fellow MasterMine VARs to discuss topics of mutual
interest, and to share both success stories and issues.

User Tip of the Month – Launch Frequently Used Reports Directly
MasterMine’s version 3.0 allows you to launch frequently used
reports from a menu, from a desktop icon, or from a SalesMagic icon on your toolbar. The
syntax for the command line is as follows:
MasterMinePath\MasterMine.exe /I;ReportPathAndName
…where “MasterMinePath” is the path to your MasterMine executable
(by default c:\program files\MasterMine) and “ReportPathAndName” is the path to
the MasterMine workbook you wish to launch.
