Typical Configuration:
Full Seats: One for each department head (or their assistant)
Share seats: One for each other GoldMine user who might use a report
MMUpdater: One or at most a few (it's powerful, but dangerous in the wrong hands)
A single seat does a lot, but is probably not enough. Here's why:
1. Easy 1-button Launch capability: Allows you to deploy already created reports to any users' GoldMine taskbar -- but they must have a MasterMine license to do launch. So regular "dumb" GoldMine users can launch refreshed reports at will (Read-Only if desired), drill through to GoldMine, even make minor report changes, and simply close them down when done.
2. Buyer happiness: As the "tech guru", the buyer of MasterMine usually likes the "1-button launch" feature, because it means users won't be coming to them every time they need the "same old" report. They off-load some of the report writing.
3. MasterMine makes it so easy for users to Modify existing reports, that most users will simply have near-finished reports placed on their desktop by the main "report creators". Basic training covers it for the Full Users, and there is a simpler level of training for "share" users, who still have the capability of vastly modifying reports if so desired. Include appropriate training!
4. MasterMine's unique flexibility makes SHARING reports almost as powerful as CREATING them from scratch. The appropriate configuration of MasterMine depends upon number and type of GoldMine users. At a typical GoldMine installation, users can expect to buy a small handfull of "Full User" seats for report "creators" and "Share" seats for most other GoldMine users. See the pricing page for costs.
